Our wages are competitive in the retail service industry. It will be at least minimum wage for customer service attendants. For all positions, it will depend on your experience.
You will get paid every other Friday. Our pay period is 14 days – Sunday to Saturday. Payroll is cut off on the Saturday and, using electronic funds transfer (EFT), your pay cheque will be deposited into your financial institution Friday morning. If you need to get paid by cheque we can likely accommodate you.
When being interviewed for the position you will need to discuss, with the manager, when you are able to work. Preference will be given to those individuals who offer the most flexible availability. You may be required to work weekends, holidays and even some midnight shifts. Hours are scheduled according to business fluctuations, seniority and availability. All shifts are scheduled for a minimum of three hours.
In many cases, yes. We are open every day and our hours are long. Many stores are open 24 hours, which means we have a variety of shifts to fill.
Occasionally. We try to avoid working our employee's overtime by asking other employees, who do not qualify for overtime that day, to work instead. However, there may be times when asking you to work overtime is unavoidable. Overtime for customer service attendants is paid at the rate of 1.5 times your regular wage.
Possibly, but not always. This would depend on your availability and our requirements at the time. Certain locations are open 24 hours a day, which means we never close and there are lots of shifts available!
Yes. The management of each Gas King location does employee hiring. Employment applications can be submitted at any time to the location(s) that wish to work at. If that store is hiring and wishes to interview you, they will contact you directly. Applications are retained for 60 days.
We will only contact you if we have selected you for a job interview. Our stores receive 100s of applications each month and we are always hiring so you will not be contacted if you are not selected for an interview. At Gas King, applications are only active for 60 days. After 60 days we encourage you to re-apply.
Yes. At every opportunity we strive to offer promotions to existing employees. We pride ourselves in promoting our existing employees when we are able.
This depends on your job performance and our requirements at any given time.
Your job performance will be evaluated and you need to express an interest to store management. Some job performance factors we evaluate are: Customer service skills, ability to get along with store management and co-workers, your cash accuracy and your attendance record.
Not officially. You will be allowed time to eat between helping customers, however, we ask that you do not consume food while doing so.
Gas King will provide you with a shirt at no charge, which must be worn while at work. There are a variety of styles to choose from. Shirts must be returned laundered and in good condition if your employment is terminated (reasonable wear and tear excepted). Winter jackets cannot be taken home but they are provided while you are on shift. Gas King operates in the retail service industry and wishes to present a conservative businesslike image to our customers. Extreme styles are not acceptable.
90 days as outlined by Alberta Employment Standards. Either party may terminate employment, without recourse, within 90 days of your first day worked.
